How to plant bushes

Gooseberry bushes are planted in spring or autumn. In the spring, you should have time to plant the plant after the soil has thawed, but the buds have not yet swollen. If you plant gooseberries later, it is unlikely to take root.

In the fall, planting is carried out 5 weeks before the onset of frost. During this period, the root system will develop in the bush.

During planting, it is important to leave some distance between the bushes. It should be more than a meter. The optimal depth of the pit for planting an annual bush is 0.5 m. Before planting, it is recommended to make fertilizers in it.

Proper care for rapid development

In order for the gooseberry bush to develop well, it is necessary to properly care for it. The plant requires a range of care work.

Gooseberry "Malachite": features of the variety

Loosening works should be carried out regularly. Dense soil is dug up with a shovel, and the loose soil is slightly “fluffed” with a pitchfork. Important and get rid of weeds in a timely manner, otherwise, moisture will accumulate near the bottom of the bush, which will lead to the formation of viruses.

Since gooseberries give many fruits, it requires a large number of top dressings. On one bush, as a standard, make:

  • potassium chloride - 20 grams;
  • compost or manure - 10 kilograms;
  • saltpeter - 40 grams;
  • superphosphate - 80 grams.

During the year, fertilizers are applied 2 times. The first time top dressing is carried out immediately after flowering. The second fertilizer application is carried out after the berries are picked.

The formation of gooseberry bushes is one of the most important stages of care. During operation, part of the roots are eliminated and skeletal branches are cut. From the fourth year of the bush's life, pruning involves preventing crown thickening. In this case, the crop will develop on branches that are about 3 years old, so the remaining branches can be shortened.

Pest control

Gooseberries are often attacked by such insects as sawflies, moths and aphids. Biological products, kalbofos and tincture of ash help protect plants from pest invasion. Work is carried out in the spring, and if this does not help, they are repeated after flowering.

Gooseberry bush should be protected from powdery mildew, despite the fact that it is not so common in the presented variety. Its appearance is characterized by gray spots on the shoots and foliage. To treat the plant from the presented disease, solutions of iron sulfate and baking soda are used. Treatment should be carried out immediately after a disease is detected.
